Our mission is to provide an intimate space for artists and writers to find clarity, to experiment, and to create work. We support and improve our community by encouraging the creation of contemporary art and writing.
Set 15 minutes from Joshua Tree National Park, The Desert House is surrounded by the natural beauty of the desert offering unmatched views, nature trails, and solitude.
The Studio
Our 400 square foot studio is equipped with work tables, tools, and wall space. The 600 square foot living space includes a private room, bathroom, as well as a full kitchen and living room.

Joshua Tree has drawn an eclectic group of artists, writers, and innovators for years. Downtown Joshua Tree bustles with the activity of galleries like Joshua Tree Art Gallery and Art Queen. On weekends the swap meet in Yucca Valley hosts artists from High Desert Test Sites and is home to Bob's Crystal Cave, an enveloping installation of crystals, model trees, and waterfalls.
A Beautiful Setting
The natural surroundings of the desert draw well over a million people each year. Joshua Tree National Park is only 15 minutes from Desert House and offers unmatched views, hikes, and rock climbing. Desert House itself sits in a rural area with trails right out the front door.
